DesignArt Networks is a fabless semiconductor company. Driving the evolution of the mobile radio access network (RAN) with highly integrated System-on-Chip platfoms and embedded SW solutions for mobile LTE, WiMAX and HSPA networks.
» Introduction
DesignArt Networks holds a unique combination of product experience and technology expertise. Our engineering team represents the state-of-the-art in the system design of mobile base station products, high-capacity backhaul modems, highly efficient coding schemes, multi-antenna signal processing, scheduling and QoS algorithms, multi-core SoC architectures, multi-core software architecture, and complex VLSI logic design.
DesignArt has submitted numerous patents related to the design, installation and operation of high-capacity radio access networks, specifically for technology related to spectral efficiency improvements, in-band backhaul, MIMO, and SON (automated network discovery, interference management, RF power control) - all essential for the systematic and rapid deployment of "dense small cell networks".
» Our Vision - Building the pervasive multi-gigabit 4G RAN
This powerful combination of embedded wireless system and networking experience, with effective complex system-on-chip (SoC) architecture design did not come by surprise. Our vision is not silicon-centric, it is network centric; our goal is to solve the RAN architecture issues that are keeping broadband wireless network deployments at bay to date - right at the silicon level. Or goal is to facilitate operators to build pervasive multi-gigabit 4G radio access networks.
Predominantly consumed indoors, mobile broadband services are driving a new data-centric delivery model. The delivery of high-capacity mobile wireless data services requires the deployment of densely populated cellular networks in out- and indoor locations - we call them Metrozones.
- Metrozone = mobile service access + high-capacity backhaul
As the exploding demand in mobile data capacity necessitates the deployment of additional base stations, compact products with low power consumption will be demanded by operators for the obvious benefits of flexibility in deployment site selection and lower site construction and leasing costs. The availability of powerful, yet ultra-compact single-box base stations will start tipping the scale, and the model will change from a tactical 3G "fill-in" model to the systematic deployment of small cell 4G infrastructure - Metrozones are born.
- Metrozone = Ultra-compact, single-box Micro- & Picocells
However, while capacity and coverage fill-ins will drive the creation of initial Metrozones, this will not yet create truly pervasive capacity coverage. An even more effective model for the rapid and systematic deployment of compact base stations needs to be available to operators - a deployment model by which operators become independent from the presence points of the fixed Metro Ethernet network. For this to happen Metrozones need to be inter-connected with a flexible, high-capacity and low-cost wireless backhaul fabric. A critical enabler, DesignArt's patented SoC-embedded SW technology for near- and non-line-of-sight wireless backhaul becomes the catalyst for systematic outdoor Metrozone deployments.
- Metrozone = Compact Micro- & Picocells with
self-backhaul
Easily installed Micro- and Picocells with self-backhaul form the pervasive multi-gigabit 4G RAN, capable of delivering the exploding mobile data service capacity required for the wide-spread adoption of the new generation of web-centric mobile devices.
» Our Solution - Open multi-protocol SoC Platforms
DesignArt’s family of SoCs provides equipment vendors with a single R&D framework for the most complete portfolio of single-box mobile RAN infrastructure products for LTE, WiMAX and HSPA networks. This includes solutions for all equipment segments in the managed mobile RAN infrastructure, such as:
- Ultra-compact Micro- and Picocells and Relays (BTS)
- Distributed and integrated multi-sector Macro BTS
- Intelligent remote radio heads (RRH)
- Multi-gigabit mobile backhaul systems (PtP, PmP)
With many features targeting the heart of the mobile RAN infrastructure - such as concurrent multi-protocol operation, in-field SW upgradability, multi-carrier spectrum aggregation, and more - these products together form the most future proof foundation for any operator, a solid solution to deploy a pervasive multi-gigabit 4G RAN service infrastructure.
