 DesignArt open SoC Platform Applications

The foundation for the success of DesignArt's open SoC platforms is our patented multi-layer, multi-core SoC architecture embedding a multitude of task-specific and customized processing cores, generously augmented with programmable HW acceleration. This architecture combines cost-efficiency, high performance and low power consumption of an ASIC, with the benefits of a fully SW-defined carrier-class multi-processor architecture.

The results are nothing less than stunning - DesignArt is leading the mobile industry to a powerful paradigm shift. The core electronic design for any type of RAN product essentially remains identical across our customers' entire product portfolio - a single SoC consuming just a few Watts.

Offering a powerful combination of SoC-based reference design platforms and application specific SW packs, DesignArt has emerged as the one-stop source for equipment vendors or ODMs to design industry-leading products for the entire mobile RAN infrastructure:

  • Ultra-compact Macro-, Micro- and PicoBTS (BTS)
  • Single-SoC, multi-sector MacroBTS PHY (PHY)
  • Distributed MacroBTS Baseband Unit (BBU)
  • Multi-carrier/-protocol Remote Readio Heads (RRH)
  • Multi-gigabit PtP and PmP backhaul systems (PMP)

There are many advantages and key differentiators for customers to chose DesignArt Networks SoCs - see below.

 Single RAN Development Platform

DAN open SoC platforms provide an extremely flexible single-chip design framework for the full scope of products targeting the mobile multi-protocol RAN. With a single development platform, equipment vendors are able to design a complete portfolio of in- and outdoor base station products – eliminating many layers of life-cycle expenses, currently incured, as well as drastically improving time-to-market.

It is important to note that DAN SoC-based products generally compete very well, based on lower BOM cost, higher performance, lower power consumption, and far advanced feature capabilities, when compared with alternative design options for the same product applications.

 Multi-gigabit Backhaul Solutions

High-capacity backhaul is a very critical element in the evolving 3G/4G RAN architecture – and a fully embedded software capability of all of our SoCs. DesignArt’s existing software solutions range from zero-cost in-band relay, and integrated out-of-band self-backhaul, to dedicated multi-hop PmP backhaul and mesh equipment. DesignArt’s patented, high-capacity, near- and none-line-of-sight (n/NLOS) backhaul technology is custom-built for the multi-gigabit 4G RAN, and suitable for any type of base station site.

Highest System Performance in any SoC Application

All DesignArt SoC platforms share one common aspect – they perform at, or near, the theoretical limit of their respective target application. And within that scope, they are fully multi-protocol SW-upgradable to enable an evolving network infrastructure – thus providing a system development framework for many product generations to come.

 Scalable, Open and Fully Software-Defined

Based on a patented multi-layer, multi-core SoC architecture DAN open SoC platforms enable fully software-defined implementations of DFE, PHY, MAC, and Service & Network Control layers, while operating at the absolute highest performance level. Vendors can easily integrate their own software assets with DesignArt’s robust, pre-integrated software packs – or replace entire software layers altogether with their own IP.

 Ultra-Compact & Green Products

The functional system integration of DesignArt’s four-layer SoC architecture lowers system and site power consumption by several orders of magnitude. The integration of DAN SoC base station and complete RF sub-systems enables increased PA output power, at reduced power consumption. A game changing design option that delivers new product categories on both ends of the outdoor base station spectrum - extremely high-power, single-box macro and micro base stations, and ultra-compact PA-IC based micro- and picocells with high output power.

 Lowest BOM Cost Design Architecture

DesignArt’s SoC solutions facilitate single-box product designs with the absolute lowest BOM – either eliminating the overhead, or integrating cost and function of many discrete components found in all other product design options.
